Hello. My name is Joel McEldoon and I am the creative mind and muscle behind Strategy Portfolios. Let me take a minute and give you a brief overview of myself and how Strategy Portfolios evolved. First, a little background on myself and my history. I came to develop Strategy Portfolios through a lifelong passion for problem solving, continuous learning, improvement and development, and a never-ending curiosity to tinker and improve things for others.
My professional career started over 30 years ago in the 1970's working in the US Air Force on electronic avionics systems. These were the days before digital computers. That experience seeded my interest in systems development where I served the second leg of my technical career in the 1980's as an Electronics Engineer working in Silicon Valley developing advanced chip-tester systems used in the semiconductor industry to functionally test computer chips. This is where I developed and applied my computer skills spending countless hours, weeks, and months in intensive computer simulation of the electronics systems that we were developing. This new computer simulation evolution spawned the birth of a new industry, Electronic Design Automation. Being one of the early adopters of this electronic design automation technology, I transitioned to the third leg of my technical career to become part of a small startup software company to bring this new technology to the global marketplace. Working directly with customers through years of rapid growth, numerous mergers and acquisitions in this explosive industry, I soon found myself in working through various management roles in technical sales, services, customer support, and to Director level roles in Customer Services, World-wide Operations, and Program Management. It was a wild ride for a good number of years. In all of these various technical and business management roles my skills continued to focus and develop in data analysis, problem solving, knowledge sharing and development, operational metrics and improvement, and above all else focused on customer success and improved return on investment.
Throughout my technical career I became more and more interested in investing. Investing became my hobby as I would read books, take courses, and study on weekends. I began learning the ins and outs of technical analysis and making investments for my retirement account. I studied stocks, options, futures, etc. It was fascinating. I purchased software and began exploring the merits of applying computer analysis to systematic trading strategies. I would develop simple strategies, test them, run extensive computer simulations on them. I would learn from them and evolve them into more complex systems. In many ways it was a lot like the systems development work I did back in the 1980's. I was applying old skills to a new challenge. It was fun and I was learning to make money.
By the time we entered the 2000's the .com bubble burst, industries were in the midst of consolidation and globalization expansion was rampant in the electronics and software industries. I was at a stage in my life where I was again getting that restless itch to start another phase of my life and career, this time focused on my new interests, so I began to share my investing knowledge and experience with others. I created a web site and began to share my strategy development and investing knowledge with others that also shared my interests. I knew from my own experience that working professionals don't have the time to properly focus on their own investments and lacked the experience to know where to start. I soon discovered that far too many people lacked a good knowledge of how to approach the markets, and more importantly their own future retirement, and win. So I evolved my web site and strategies to solve both of these problems.
In 2005, Strategy Portfolios began to transition from a community sharing site to a service business. Today, I focus myself full time on my proprietary strategy development work, investing and managing my personal accounts trading in stocks, options, and futures and in providing consulting services to investors, brokers, and advisors looking to apply my strategy methods to enhance their portfolio returns. As I have developed my skills in strategy development over the past few years I have won strategy development/portfolio performance competitions and my strategies have recently been ranked among the prestigious Marketocracy m100 group of funds. My strategies often rank within the top 10% of the over 70,000 funds tracked at Marketocracy. The following link will show you the current rating and historical performance of one of my strategies being tested in real time at Marketocracy:

Strategy Portfolios Methodology:
First, I take advantage of a longer time frame. Instead of getting
thrashed around by trying to keep up with the daily activity in
the markets, I focus on the longer term weekly trends. This also
helps the working professional who does not have the time to watch
market activity during the week.
Second, I share a diverse group of strategy model portfolios that individuals can easily follow and select from for further evaluation and consideration for their own portfolios. These range from conservative, income, growth to aggressive more speculative type of strategies and selections. All strategies employ and emphasize focus and discipline as essential elements to investing success. Each strategy has its own very explicit rules for selecting stocks and managing the positions in the portfolio and is in effect mechanical in that respect as there is no subjectivity regarding when to make a change and which stock will become the replacement. It is dynamic in the sense that the selections are based on current market data, run each weekend, but it is mechanical in that the computer model behind the strategy determines which stock is selected and when changes are appropriate.
For more info on the Strategies, see: Strategies For Success
Third, I provide a concise weekly overview and update to changes in the strategies and model portfolios that I track. With this approach I demonstrate a methodology and process to easily track an investment portfolio. A busy working professional can easily take a weekend update and in a few minutes online, or on the phone, make changes to their own portfolio for the week.
I measure my success by your success.
My desire is to keep my membership small, exclusive, and profitable.
